New white paper.

The Rail Control System – the Swiss way of optimising traffic management.

The system in brief.

Environmentally friendly operation.
Automated processes.
Traffic density optimization.
Improved punctuality.
A safer ride.

The system with a broad view for maintaining an overview.

Every year, SBB produces 170 million train-path kilometres. To put it more simply, this equates to 4,250 journeys around the earth. This means that 11,000 trains operate each day with up to 1,000 running simultaneously – 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year – transporting more than one million passengers daily.

SBB controls

10,671

trains with RCS each day.

With RCS, SBB transports

210,000 tonnes of cargo

each day.

RCS resolves

1,000,000

conflicts on a daily basis.

Thanks to RCS,

1.26 million passengers

can be transported safely and punctually on the SBB network.

2000 driving commands per day to save electricity of

18,500 households

each year.
